ADD/ADHD Testing FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a wait time for an appointment?

No! We currently do not have a “wait list,” but it is still recommended to contact us to get a good idea on timing and setting up an appointment. We know that it can be challenging to deal with long wait times, so we work hard to make sure that we are able to meet your needs as soon as possible.

Does completing this assessment allow me to get medicine for ADD/ADHD?

The short answer is yes! However, we do not prescribe medications. Your primary care physician, or psychiatrist, will receive a report with the results and will help you decide if ADD/ADHD medications are needed.

Does completing this assessment allow me to get academic accommodations for ADD/ADHD?

Yes! However, we choose to coordinate with your medical doctor for academic accommodations, which will more than likely require the Report be sent to him/her. Additionally, not all school systems have the same process for providing academic accommodations. This means that if accommodations are a desire of yours then we will work with you to determine the best course of action.

Will I have to do more testing after this assessment?

Not at all! However, we want to make an important clarification. Further testing is not required for ADD/ADHD, specifically. If the results of the testing indicate comorbidities or differential diagnoses, then further testing and assessment may be necessary, but that is your decision to make. If you are unfamiliar with comorbidities and/or differential diagnoses, you can learn about them in The Testing Process section on this page.

How long will it take for the Report to finish?

Our goal is to complete the Report within 2 to 3 weeks from the date of the assessment. However, if timing is a concern (e.g., you or your child leaving soon for college), we will work with you to complete and send the Report in a quicker timeframe. Typically, timing depends on what is discussed during the assessment – if there is an extensive history then the Report will could take a little longer than normal.

Do I need to be present while my child is being tested?

If your child is under the age of 12 then you will need to be with him/her the whole time. Moreover, if your child is under the age of 12, your child does not have to be present. When we assess for children under the age of 12, we are evaluating the observations that you, the parent/caregiver, have made and your child’s teacher(s), if you desire.

How much time does the assessment take?

For ages 3-11, plan for the assessment to take four (4) hours.

For ages 12-18, plan for the assessment to take three (3) hours.

For ages 18 and older, plan for the assessment to take three (3) hours.

Do I need to have the Report sent to another professional?

No, the Report does not have to be sent to anyone! There are some people who complete the assessment for their own understanding and choose not to have the Report sent to anyone.

Will I have access to the results and/or Report?

Yes! Michael, the examiner, will give a brief explanation of the initial results of the assessment. Once the Report is completed, you are welcome to discuss the Report with Michael and/or receive a copy of the Report. Please keep in mind that confidentiality applies to any discussions and sending of the Report.
