Anne Sherman Mattingly ME.d, NCC, ALC
Associate Licensed Counselor
Anne Mattingly is an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Psychology with a minor in Social Work and her M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of Montevallo, specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Anne works with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, life transitions, chronic illness stressors, and identity development. She aims to create an environment where each client can feel safe and accepted just the way they are. Through a warm, relational, and trauma informed approach, Anne helps clients build coping skills, process difficult experiences, and grow in confidence as they navigate the challenges of everyday life.
Anne completed clinical training at a child advocacy center, where she supported children and families navigating traumatic experiences. She uses an integrative, trauma informed approach, drawing from Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child Centered Play Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Trauma Focused CBT, and nervous system based techniques. She thoughtfully tailors therapy to each client’s developmental stage, goals, and strengths.
A personal and professional passion of Anne’s is walking alongside children and teens living with Type 1 diabetes and other chronic medical conditions. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of nine, she brings both clinical training and lived experience into the counseling room. She understands the emotional burden of diabetes related anxiety, burnout, fear of complications, and the daily demands of medical management. Anne also supports parents and caregivers as they navigate the stress of caring for a child with a chronic condition.
Outside of the counseling room, Anne enjoys spending time with friends and family, listening to audiobooks, thrift shopping, and being with her dogs.
